Every Saturday, my roommates and myself will go to the nearby temple in our hostel campus and used to help the priest there in cleaning the temple and other things. Ellu sadam is a very simple rice recipe which we generally during the Saturdays of the tamil month Puratasi. If you feel the sesame seeds are bit dirt, wash this nicely and drain the water and dry in a cloth. I love sesame seeds and this sesame rice is a delicious yet different South Indian rice recipe.
Steps to make Ellu Sadam / Sesame Rice:
- Combine the as all ingredients and grind them and make fine powder.
- Heat oil in a pan when oil is hot add mustard seeds and allow to crackle.
- Add the chanadal, urad dal and dry red chilli fry until golden brown.
- Add curry leaves, peanut and 1 tbsp ground powder fry for few seconds on low heat.
- Now add the cooked rice and season with salt.
- Mix well so that rice is well blended with ellu powder.
- Serve hot with appalamor vadam and pickle and papad.
