Khatta Dhokla is a vegetarian food item that originates from Gujarat. Khatta Dhokla is like Khaman, and the terms are frequently used interchangeably.
Steps to make White Dhokla:
- First rice & dal make a course paste in a blender. Transfer in a bowl add salt, dahi or Chas, 1/2tsp oil. Set aside.
- Now heat a water in a kadai or steamer place one stand.Take a plate apply little oil. Before pouring batter add baking soda mix well. Now set the batter into a a steamer or kadai. Cover the lid. After 5 minutes in a high flame. open the lid sprinkle black pepper powder. Keep cover again. In a low flame.
- Now check with knife or tooth pic. Turn off flame. After turning off gas keep same position. Take a small pan put oil add mustard seeds start crackling add hing white sesme seeds turn off flame. Pour this over dhokla. Now garnish with chopped coriander leaves, Peri Peri masala.
We call this safed dhokla aka white dhokla. Because on occasion we make yellow colored dhokla where chana dal is used. So the color name used to differentiate both. White Dhokla (Rice flour Dhokla) is one of the famous Gujarati Dhokla variants. This fermented dhokla is healthy and light sour snacks options.
