The ingredients needed to make Rice Halwa/Vennai puttu/Halwa puttu:
- Take 2 cup rice
- Take 1 1/2 cup Jaggery (grated)
- Make ready 1/2 cup Coconut (grated)
- Get 1/2 cup Coconut pieces
- Get 3 tbsp Ghee
- Prepare 2 cup water
Puttu is basically a I have used puttu podi available in the markets to make puttu. Putti podi is coarsely ground rice flour. You can even use store brought rice flour too. Rice flour puttu is a very traditional puttu made in Southern India, especially in Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
Steps to make Rice Halwa/Vennai puttu/Halwa puttu:
- Soak rice for 4-5 hours. Grind to a fine paste adding water little by little.
- Boil 1 cup water adding a pinch of salt.
- When water boils add the rice paste along with 1 cup water used for washing and grinding.
- After it's cooked and starts to thicken add the jaggery and mix till it's combined and comes together.
- Next add the coconut pieces followed by grated coconut. Add ghee and mix well.
- After adding ghee it forms a lumpy mass.To check if it's done touch with wet hands it should not stick.
- Grease a plate with ghee and spread the halwa. Add little ghee on top and level with the back of a spoon to smoothen the surface.
- Cool completely and cut into pieces.
Rice flour for puttu is usually prepared in the house. Puttu is a very healthy and filling breakfast or as evening snack for kids. Vennai Puttu is a delicious Indian recipe served as a Dessert. Make a jaggery syrup, strain and keep aside. Native to Kerala, Rice Puttu makes a delicious and healthy breakfast.
