- Get 1 1/2 cup Yam cut into cubes
- Make ready 1 1/2 cup Colacasia cut into pieces
- Take 1/2 cup potato cut into cubes
- Prepare 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
- Take 1 small tomato (cut into small pieces)
- Make ready 1 medium onion (coarsely blended)

- Prepare 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
- Take to taste Salt
- Take 1/2 tsp sugar
- Prepare 1 tsp Coriander leaves for garnishing
- Make ready 1/2 tsp whole jeera/cumin seeds
- Prepare 1 pinch hing/ asafoetida
- Prepare 2 slit green chillies
- Take As needed Oil
If the colocasia is itchy while peeling , apply oil to your hands. Add little tamarind water if colocasia is itchy. Traditionally, the dish is made with the West African yam, but you can also use white or purple taro root or unripe plantains. To serve, remove and discard the cooked chile.
Instructions to make Yam and Colacasia Curry:
- Pressure cook yam, colocasia and potato pieces together in a medium flame upto 5 whistles.
- Now heat a kadai or pan. Add 5 tsp oil to it. Now add jeera & all khada garam masalas with dried red chilli & bay leaf. Add few curry leaves. Now add a pinch of hing to it.
- Now add onion, tomato, ginger-garlic paste, salt, turmeric powder, coriander-cumin powder, garam masala powder, sugar, green chillies, Kashmiri red chilli powder. Mix everything well and cook it in a low flame until oil starts releasing the pan.
- Now add the boiled yam & colocasia to it. Add desired quantity of water, salt and turmeric to it, cover it and let it simmer in a low flame for about 8 to 10 mins. Finally garnish it with some coriander leaves. You can serve it with steamed rice or roti..
