Instructions to make Pudalangai Kootu (Snakegourd Gravy):
  1. First cut the vegetable into ring shaped pieces. Then add a cup of water and bake it.
  2. In a mixer grinder prepare a paste with red chilli, jeera, grated coconut, perungayam powder.
  3. Add this paste to boiling item. Then add the baked Moong dal
  4. Allow to cook for 10 minutes. Then the Kootu is ready.
  5. In a pan add urad dal, jeera and curry leaves and fry with cooking oil. Add this mixture to Kootu.
  6. The dish is ready to taste.

Snake gourd is rich in fibre and helps prevent constipation. I love preparing kootu as it does not need much oil, except for seasoning. I had this kootu in my friend 'B's place,she made this with her yummy tangy,spicy kaara kuzhambu so this one made an awesome combo with its mild and flavorful taste! We make it usually with moong dal and sambar powder. But this is so easy and so different from the usual recipe, so obviously I loved it.
