  1. Get 300 gm Puffed rice
  2. Make ready 1/2 cup Oil
  3. Get 1 tsp Mustard seeds

  5. Prepare 1/4 tsp Asafoetida
  6. Make ready 2 stalks Curry leaves
  7. Take 5 Whole red chillies - broken in half
  8. Make ready 1/2 cup Roasted split chana

  10. Make ready 15 cloves Garlic - crushed with skin
  11. Make ready 1 tsp Red chilli powder
  12. Prepare 3/4 tsp Salt
  13. Make ready 1 tbsp Sugar OR
  14. Take 2 tsp Sugar powder

A handy snack of puffed rice and peanuts sautéed with garlic, curry leaves and spice powders. The addition of red chilli powder adds a spicy dimension to the Kolhapuri Bhadang Murmura, which is highlighted well by the addition of a wee bit of sugar! Murmura /puffed rice mixed with dal, spices, coriander leaves and garnished with spicy mixture. Spicy puffed rice is a very popular Indian tea time snack.

Steps to make Spicy Puffed Rice | Murmura Chivda | Khara Mandakki:
  1. In a small kadai, heat oil on medium flame. Add mustard seeds & cumin seeds. Allow to splutter. Lowder the heat and add curry leaves, whole red chillies & asafoetida.
  2. Add the roasted split chana and almonds. Traditional recipe is made uusing peanuts. Due to dietary constraints of my family, I substitute it with almonds. You may chose either one of them.
  3. Saute until fried gram is slightly golden brown and almonds start swelling and cracking up slightly.
  4. Turn off heat. Add the crushed garlic. Heat of the oil is enough to cook the garlic.
  5. Add red chilli powder. Mix well.
  6. Pour the seasoning over the puffed rice. Add salt & sugar.
  7. Mix well on low heat so that the puffed rice becomes crispy & crunchy. Check the spices and adjust according to your taste.
