Hey everyone, it is Louise, welcome to my recipe site. Today, we’re going to prepare a special dish, scones. One of my favorites food recipes. This time, I am going to make it a little bit unique. This will be really delicious.

Follow the recipe for Simple Scones, adding a generous teaspoon of finely grated orange rind (zest) to the dry ingredients and substituting dried cranberries for the raisins. These scones are fantastic, and they're so easy to make. I've made them twice in the last twenty four hours, and got rave reviews each time.

Scones is one of the most favored of current trending meals in the world. It’s simple, it’s fast, it tastes yummy. It’s enjoyed by millions every day. Scones is something which I’ve loved my entire life. They’re fine and they look fantastic.

To get started with this particular recipe, we have to first prepare a few ingredients. You can cook scones using 8 ingredients and 8 steps. Here is how you cook that.

The ingredients needed to make Scones:
  1. Take plain flour
  2. Make ready baking soda/ bicarb
  3. Take sugar
  4. Get salt
  5. Prepare butter
  6. Get plain yogurt
  7. Prepare milk
  8. Take sultanas (optional)

A pinch of nutmeg in the batter adds just the right amount of spice. For the airiest scones, skip the food processor and hand-mix the batter ingredients using a light touch when kneading. Brush scones with remaining heavy cream and for extra crunch, sprinkle with coarse sugar. (You can. Scones are not the blobs of cheap bread dough shaped in a triangle and liberally dosed with sugar that Americans think they are (present recipe excluded, of course).

Instructions to make Scones:
  1. Weigh out and mix all the dry ingredients. Self raising flour can be used instead of plain flour and baking powder.
  2. Turn on the oven to 220°C
  3. Dice up the butter into 1cm cubes. Add to the dry mix, and use your fingers to squeeze the butter and flour into crumbs. Continue until the mix resembles fine breadcrumbs with no lumps of butter left.
  4. Measure out the milk and yogurt and mix well in a jug
  5. Add the liquid slowly to the dry part and mix. You will not need all the liquid. Continue combining until the whole mixture combines into a ball. It should be a little sticky, but not wet.
  6. Turn out the mixture onto a flour-dusted surface. Shape into a log and divide into 8 equal pieces (or 10 for smaller scones). Shape each one into a squat square, about 1" tall and place on a baking tray.
  7. Use the remaining milk mix and brush it over the tip of the scones for a nice glaze.
  8. Bake at 220°C for 12-15 minutes until brown on top.

And for those who complained about the crumbly dough, ummmmmm, crumbly dough makes crumbly scones. English scones are not glazed or frosted, and they are generally spilt open and spread with butter, but sometimes also with clotted cream and jam (yes please!). Our scones tend to be richer and more cake-like, usually made with egg and with heavy cream or buttermilk. Find scone recipes, videos, and ideas from Food Network. Scones are as quintessentially British as the Queen, Coronation Street, tutting and the Hollywood Handshake.
